In this guide, we are going to learn how to install Microsoft Teams app on Ubuntu 24.04/Ubuntu 22.04. Microsoft Teams is chat-centered workspace in Office 365. It instantly enables you to access all your team’s content from a single place where messages, files, people and tools live together.

Kindly note that MS Teams App for Linux has been discontinued in favor of web based service. The installation guide below uses unofficial method of running MS Teams app on Linux. Proceed with caution!

As of this guide update, Microsoft Teams App for Linux is no longer officially supported.

Install Teams via SNAPS On Ubuntu 24.04/Ubuntu 22.04

Snaps are a type of universal Linux package format developed by Canonical. They are designed to work across a range of Linux distributions, providing a way to package and distribute software that includes all of its dependencies.

On the latest versions of Ubuntu, SNAP is already enabled by default.

Use the following command to check if Snapd (Snap runtime) is installed:

snap --version
snap    2.61.1
snapd   2.61.1
series  16
ubuntu  24.04
kernel  6.6.0-14-generic

If SNAP is enabled by default for some reason, just install it as follows;

sudo apt update
sudo apt install snapd

You can then install MS Teams app for Linux on Ubuntu 24.04/Ubuntu 22.04 using the command below;

sudo snap install teams-for-linux

After a short while, you should be having MS teams App running on your Linux system.

Relaunch the terminal and run command below to check MS teams app version

teams-for-linux --version
1.4.10

Using Microsoft Teams App on Ubuntu 24.04/Ubuntu 22.04

Once the App is installed, you can either launch Teams App from activities or from terminal by simply typing teams.

Launch teams and sign in with your cooperate mail account to be able to create teams, schedule meetings, chat make team calls etc.
